Putting everything back together Once I had soldered the modchip to the board, I could put the console back together. I started by taping over all of the points I soldered to, including most of the modchip. Taping prevents any of the connections from being shorted with the case, and also helps hold the wires in place.

I get that you prefer original disk but I will mention ripping them to ISO then ESR patching and burning them back to disk would fix your issue.
As for the boot rate, are you sure about this? It could've just been a faulty install, as the modbo is a clone of one of THE most high quality, modchips out there (of course, a clone is a clone and is usually made of inferior quality). At any rate, I already have this chip in my possession, and the original Matrix Infinity has long been discontinued, so I don't have much of a choice at this point, unless I can pawn this chip off on someone else lmao.

Use thicker wire for GND and 3.3V I used to use the copper wire from old phone wires. I started with the pads to the right of the chip, and then followed a counter clockwise pattern around the modchip once I finished soldering wires to the pads. Above is an image of what my installation looked like after I finished with the pads. I had the most trouble when it came time to solder wires to the holes, or vias, that are located under the modchip. Getting solder to stick to the holes was tricky, I’d recommend using some flux to help get the solder flowing. I inserted an image of wires attached so some of the holes above.
Use 28awg 30awg kynar wire, it's easier to solder to certain points that can be too small for 30awg 28awg or other wires. Do not cross wires, use some kind of adhesive (I used a glue gun) to keep the wires tidy. Google for pictures before starting, some mod-jobs are masterpieces thrive for that perfection but have an honest expectation of how your job is going to look like at the end. Do not panic if you burn away a via or accidentally lift a trace, take a pause and repair when you are focused again.

Having some problems here. Initially I replaced a Magic V chip that seemingly didn't work so well with this Modbo board - using the same connections. Bit of a mess, but it gave the Matrix boot screen and let me access the menu. However, it didn't boot backups or imports - going straight to the red 'Insert a PlayStation Disc' error screens. So I figured it must be the install.
